A church was getting rid of them on Freecycle, pastor said the praise music was more contemporary nowadays (i.e., guitar-based) and they also got rid of their organ (not sure what that was, termites got to it first!). I scored two 1977 Leslie 147s a year ago. Although something in-between speed-wise between the stock chorale and tremolo speeds would be much appreciated. If I understand the schematic correctly, changing speeds I think is just a matter of a relay being switched in and out.įWIW, I am a swirly fan. You will probably lose the abililty to change speeds this way, though. If it's a Lowery LS-L or LS-O model I have the docs for itĪ more quick-and-dirty way would be to bypass the amp altogether and wire the motor(s) to a electrical box and hook up the speaker (or crossover) to guitar amp or whatever. Most of the amp is contained on the back panel that has all them tubes, but the input stage is remotely located up by the stops and isn't easily moved like the main stage of the amp. A creative DIY person could pull that sucker and use it as a very effective guitar amp if they can build a simple input stage for it. That old organ likely has a 2 bottle 6v6 amp too. It's a rotating baffle Leslie and more like a Fender Vibratone than a big Hammond-type Leslie, but still. But it's a real Leslie and it will sound cool.

Know that it's probably only a single speed unit, and you won't easily be able to make it variable speed. That whole Leslie unit is self contained, so once you have a handle on the wires you can unbolt the whole thing and lift it out. Start at the speaker and motor and trace those wires to a convenient cut point. Yes, it looks like a lot more, but that's all coming from the switch mechanism and what-not. for the motor, and 2 that are the speaker wires. Ultimately, that Leslie only has 4 wires going to it: 2 that carry 110v. Zero chance of leaving behind fibers, for one thing.Easy to do. I know you don't want to do it, but my vote is for zero-residue, plastic-safe spray. Those would likely not leave bristles behind. I have some cylindrical swabs that are made of some kind of material that resembles ceramic filtration media or maybe just extremely compacted felt. That type will fit almost anywhere you can slide paper into. The widest part of the business end is about 3/16" and it tapers to a point. I still have some triangular, super thin, chamois swabs on short plastic sticks that I picked up as surplus a long time ago. How about art detailing brushes? Those are pretty small and will flatten out for slipping under the coil/pad. If you can't find them at Hobby Lobby, I'm sure a modeling supply online will have them. Several of the keys on both manuals are erratic, but they will produce the correct notes when they decide to work. That was caused by an open Candohm, and I replaced all four Candohms on the power supply and amp chassis, along with all the electrolytics & coupling caps. The organ was built around 1955, and had been in use until 10 years ago when it went POP! There are 4 on each key, spaced less than 1/4”. The arrow points to the only access to the contacts.
